decoarts – schön zu haben
Inspired by Berlin's quirky charm, I decided to leave Paris in 1995.
I had just finished my photography studies at the ENSA and it was already clear to me that I was more interested in the idiosyncrasy of an image motif and the stories behind a snapshot than in the depiction of trends and conventional beauty. In this respect, it was consistent to move to a city that proudly displays its audacious history with an unwieldy backdrop.
Berlin as a base - it just fitted. My penchant for whimsical aesthetics and the provocative beauty of the different was in good hands here. Over the years, I developed an increasing interest in unusual furnitures, objects and art. I went in search of things I wanted to surround myself with and thus often ended up in my French homeland.
When it became too cramped in my Berlin flat, I decided to open a gallery to show my collection. The idea became reality in 1999 in Motzstraße in Schöneberg. Since then, Deco Arts has offered a repertoire that stands for itself with idiosyncratic grace and unique pieces and does not allow itself to be pinned down to specific epochs or styles. Most of the pieces have more to offer than cool flatness and serviceable functionality. They have an individual origin, pass on their own history and are always unique and original.
